Never Let the Fear of Striking out Keep you from Playing the Game

I heard this saying this weekend “Never Let the Fear of Striking out Keep you from Playing the Game.” I guess its very fitting in a few aspects of my life right now. Job Hunting. Relationship. A lot of times I hold back for fear of failure, fear that I will find out things I want to know but again don’t really want to know. I hate to fail – more than most people. I don’t take failure well, I tend to climb further into my shell when failure arises. And that is for failure in anything in my life.

In relationships: I don’t push, I tend to hold back from saying certain things, from showing too many feelings, from trying to ask for too much because I have that fear – that fear of striking out. That I will just hear no, no, no or I don’t want this anymore. So, I have always been passive and I guess passive about certain things is good but passive about other things is not and maybe sometimes I should just lay my feelings on the line. And if I don’t hear what i want to hear back, then maybe whatever this is, isn’t really what i thought it was…

In jobs: i am extremely comfortable where i am at, i make good money. to put myself back out in the job market and get nothing, no one contacting me – scary. i know that won’t be the case. but like i said I don’t like failure. but its time for failure to kick me in the ass because i have to get out there and job search, i have to find a new job.

So thats going to be my new motto for a lot of things in life (nothing like a good baseball reference):

“Never Let the Fear of Striking out Keep you from Playing the Game”

I heard something else this weekend and I felt like it was worth stating…because I believe its true…

“Do you believe in love at first sight?”

“What I believe in? I believe in taking a deeper look.”

Sometimes something just slaps you in the face and its there – love at first sight… i don’t think so but enough of “something” there to take a deeper look…maybe?

I’ll Be

By:Edwin McCain

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
And emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth

And tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I’ll be captivated, I’ll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

And I’ll be your cryin’ shoulder
I’ll be love`s suicide
And I’ll be better when I’m older
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life

And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
And you’re my survival, you’re my living proof
My love is alive, and not dead

And tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated, I’ll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

And I’ll be your cryin’ shoulder
I`ll be love`s suicide
And I’ll be better when I’m older
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.

And I dropped out, I burned up, I fought my way back from the dead,
I tuned in,I turned on, remembered the thing that you said.

And I’ll be your cryin’ shoulder
I’ll be love`s suicide
And I’ll be better when I’m older
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life

The greatest fan of your life.

Scatter-brained I am… and SOOO NOT a Mets Fan

I should not be allowed to have debit cards or licenses because I LOSE THEM! On a consistent basis I lose my debit card and my license, but never at the same time. This morning I had to call my bank and cancel my card and Bruce, my banker, says to me “Karin, you need to get that thing permanently attached to your hand!!!!”

I am forever losing things and I am a clutz. Thats me – thats my M.O.

You gotta take me or leave me cuz thats the way I come.

And I will NEVER be a Mets fan… (die hard cubbie to the end!)

I lost a bet w/ one of the guys in the office- if the cubs swept the series last week he had to wear my cubs shirt w/ rhinestones on it and if the mets swept the series I had to wear this at work all day…

so anyways… the mets fans in the office gave me my fair share of shit… when i got to work on friday my desk was covered in mets stuff. come on leave me alone, i am just a poor cubbie fan!!!

baseball, baseball, and one more baseball – 3 times the baseball

So my parents came here to visit me after my brother’s wedding and if you have ever read my Blog Eamus Catili you will know that I am a HUGE Cubbies fan and my dad is not – he is a cardinals fan (BOOOOOO!!!). The Cubs were here in NYC for 3 days of games against the Mets (which a fun fact – they had to take a train from Maryland to NYC – Juan Pierre said if we keep losing they will start making us take a bus – hahaha). So I decided as part of showing my parents around NYC – I would take the to the Cubs/Mets game on Monday nite! It was a great game, I love being at the ballpark in Summer! I was the only one in our section wearing a cubbies T-shirt (my mark prior t-shirt to be exact) and the CUBBIES WON!! 8-7 It was so nice to come back to the office and rub it in the Mets fans faces – all the ones that tell me daily how much my cubbies suck!

So after the game – I found out that my current favorite cubbie MARK PRIOR would be pitching the Wednesday afternoon game. I have never ever had a chance to watch my husband pitch – so I thought it was time! I was on a mission from GOD to get really good up close tickets to watch him pitch. One of my good guy friends said he would take the afternoon off with me – so a guy in the office that is a huge Mets fan got ahold of his ticket broker and got me sweet tickets for cheap right behind home plate. I felt like i was sitting right next to Mark Prior. And I thought my guy friend was going to kill me because I think every other word out of my mouth was Mark Prior this or Mark Prior that! He pitched a decent game – walked alot of guys but he had no hits! But the cubbies lost in extra innings 1-0. However the loss did not go to my man Prior!

“Prior made his sixth start of the season and second since his latest stint on the disabled list — he was sidelined with a strained muscle on his left side. He lowered his ERA from 8.14 to 6.60 but is winless in nine starts since last September, the longest drought of his career. The 25-year-old Prior walked four in the first four innings, including the leadoff batter three times. He showed some frustration but never folded.
“It’s starting to come around,” Prior said. “I’ve had a lot of freak things happen to me. … I think I’ve got a lot of great years ahead of me.” Cubs first baseman John Mabry went to his knees for Endy Chavez’s sixth-inning grounder toward the hole, and Prior hustled to cover first. That’s when he appeared to run out of gas. Prior walked slowly back to the mound and was checked by Baker. Prior stayed in the game but never looked comfortable during a five-pitch walk to Beltran. Baker then came back out and removed the right-hander. “I was on a short leash going into that sixth inning,” said Prior, who had some cramping in a finger on his pitching hand late in his outing. Prior threw only 56 strikes. He walked a season-high five and fanned three.”

So at this point in the week I had already been to 2 Ball games, which i mean i got to watch my cubbies play twice in one week! And Friday at the office, my friend Michele (who has season tickets to the Yankees) says we have 2 extra tickets would you like to go? I was like SURE WHY NOT!! Make it 3 games in one week! WOO HOO! So on Saturday my roomie and I laid out in the backyard all day and then headed off to Yankee Stadium to meet up with Michele and Ian. However, what I didnt know is that my roomie, Jenn, had ran into our neighbor (whose husband Lou works the games at all the games) and she gave Jenn Lou’s cell # and told her to call him to see if he could get us moved to better seats. So we get there, get our beers and we call Lou – Lou moves us down to awesome seats and brings us pizza!! Well the Yankees got creamed by Tampa Bay – but it was still a great game and a great time!! Afterwards, Michele and Ian joined a group of us for dinner in Times Square and it was just an amazing day, afternoon, and evening! Thanks Michele for the tix! I owe ya!!

Anyways – I AM A LUCKY GIRL!!! Three Ballgames in ONE week – YEP READ IT – 3 in ONE WEEK!

“Eamus Catuli” – emblazoned upon a Sheffield Avenue apartment building behind the right-field wall of Wrigley are these words – Latin for – “Let’s Go CUBS!”

Right now Iam reading “Cubs Essential: Everything you Need to Know to be a Real Fan!” My daddy mailed this book to me, with an inscription from him saying “To my Favorite Cub Fan, Karin Rose. From Your Cardinal Fan Dad.”

See being born in Illinois and having all my family members basically born and bred therethe Page/Warner Clan has some very strong and close ties to Illinois Sports teams. The Warnerfamily -Cubs Fans. The Pagefamily – Cardinals Fans. Talk about family controversy. For some reason, WHICH I THANK GOD EVERYDAY, my Dad was never able to taint me with his Cardinal ways and from the day I entered this earth I have been a Cubbie, die hard and true. My poor brother has those evil Cardinal tenticles grab him and he is a lost cause….

Only benefits my brother got…going to see the Cardinals play in St. Louis and getting to see his favorite player Ozzie Smith play. Me on the otherhand, my dad would torture me and only take me to see the Cubs IF and ONLY IF they were playing the Cardinals in St. Louis. Finally in my 20s, he took me to see a Cubs game in Wrigley Field – by that time I had been several times on my own. AND OF COURSE – I NEVER got to see my favorite player play – Ryno. NOPE NEVER. TORTURE and PUNISHMENT for not being a Cardinal fan…someday I will get over it…MAYBE!

I grew up on the Cubs – Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson, and Mark Grace – were a few of the very IMPORTANT MEN in my childhood (besides my daddy, grandpas, and my bro). These Men’s faces Graced my baseball cards…I think I had every Ryne Sandberg card out there (where they are now, I have no clue) – he was my first real crush. mmmmmmm. Now my current Cubbie crush – Mark Prior – who wouldnt love him!

It seems that my sports teams are doomed to heartache – continuous heartache for their fans. The Cubbies such a great team to LOVE and WATCH over the years, such a rich historty, a wonderful Ball Park to kick back in the sun, have a beer and a hot dog…no other place I would want to watch a game. But always, always, always, they break my heart. They always do….HOWEVER…I will always be a Cubbie. Never will I turn my back on my Team and My Love for Them and Their rich history. They may not be good this year or last year or probably even next year, but they are the Cubs. I was born with Cubbie blood running through my veins…

Eamus Catuli!
